The slick and catchy pop of the respected Scotland-born adult-contemporary songwriter Gerry Rafferty made a sizeable dent in the MOR charts in the 1970s. His lengthy music career began in the late '60s with the fok act the Humblebums alongside comedian Billy Connolly, after which he formed the duo Stealers Wheel with Joe Egan. The group had a big hit in '73 with "Stuck in the Middle With You," which re-charted 20 years later after exposure in the film RESERVOIR DOGS. Rafferty's '78 solo album spawned the classic smooth-rock single "Baker Street" as well as a few other radio tracks, and the follow-up album yielded another hit. Rafferty's recorded output has been sparse since then, and in '08, the singer-songwriter went missing and was presumed deceased.
