A mixed-race man finds his beliefs stretched to breaking point as he finds himself caught up in Hungary's communist regime in director Ibolya Fekete's (BOLSHE VITA) CHICO. The man, named Chico, has spent most of his life surrounded by turmoil; having lived in Chile and Bolivia during turbulent times in their histories, he suddenly finds a new sense of purpose when he winds up in Croatia. As the war rages around him, Chico joins forces with the Croatians in their battle against the neighboring Serbians. Finally finding something he believes in, Fekete ups the dramatic ante of his film by deploying some real footage from the battle as Chico fights with newfound vigor. A powerful film that illustrates much of the confusion people have when searching for an identity, CHICO won the Best Director award for Fekete at the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival.
