THE CHESS HOTEL shows the influence of 1960s and '70s classic rock, rechannelled to tell about life in small Midwestern towns. Imagine a born-again Urge Overkill (if you dare), and you're not too far off.

The band, which hails from Indiana, is thoughtful about religion without being preachy. The songs, especially the title track and "The Tower and The Trains," are as focused on the hardships and lack of opportunity in small-town America as they are on more specifically religious topics.
