The marimba, a wooden percussion instrument similar to the xylophone in structure and arrangement, forms the instrumental basis for much of the folk and popular music of Guatemala. Smithsonian Folkways' CHAPINLANDIA: MARIMBA MUSIC OF GUATEMALA, collects 19 performances of traditional Guatemalan marimba tunes.
