Title Note

This eight-track release of '50s Latin accordion music by Donato and Seu Conjunto features "Comigo E Assim" and "Baiso."

While not quite as well known as Antonio Carlos Jobim or Milton Nascimento, pianist/arranger Joao Donato is a major Brazilian music figure, who was in on the ground floor of the original bossa nova movement and active in American jazz. From 1956, Donato's debut, CHA DANCANTE, actually precedes the bossa nova era. It's an album of genial, lighthearted, jazz-tinged dance music, a Brazilian counterpart to that decade's easy-listening/mood music albums from the U.S. by Ray Conniff and Percy Faith. Loaded with lyrical clarinet, piano, and accordion, this is a fine set for unwinding, dining, and dancing.
