Unladylike Artist Snapshot:

Tee (aka Teosha Thomas) and Gunna (aka Jasmine Baker) began making rhymes when they were friends in high school and, by 2002, had already recorded their first song together. In 2007, they participated in a BET contest for unknown talent, and quickly impressed the judges, who brought them to Def Jam Chairman L.A. Reid. They were immediately signed to a deal and began work on their debut album, CERTIFIED, which features production by Ty Fyffe and boasts the singles "Bartender Scummy Dummy" and "D'ough."

Title Note

While female East St. Louis rap duo Unladylike chart their own course, there is a clear foremother to their style. Unladylike do obvious influence Missy Elliott proud on their 2009 debut, CERTIFIED, as the duo mix darkly serious, fierce backbeats with slang-heavy lyrics that balance unabashed sexuality with just as brazen humor--take "D'ough," which builds a demonic, crunked-out beat and rhymes about financial prowess around a sample of Homer Simpson's classic exclamation (among other SIMPSONS references) or the funky "Bartender" which tells a slinky tale of a girls' night out gone awry.
