This concept album from Dagda is a tribute to the ancient people of Ireland. Celebrating the early tribal religion of the Celts or Gauls, as they are alternately called, CELTIC TRANCE is predictably quite ethereal and mystical.

CELTIC TRANCE is the brainchild of keyboardist Reg Keating, who composed all of the music. Keating's pieces combine spacey keyboard sounds with programmed drum loops and traditional Irish instruments; synthesized pan flute is heard alongside the tin whistle, and keyboard strings are mixed in with uilleann pipes. This coalescence of old-world instruments with new-world technology shows the expansiveness of Keating's musical vision. Most of CELTIC TRANCE is instrumental, but the addition of breathy female vocals on four of the album's 14 tracks emphasizes the spiritual underpinnings of this music. Keating's lyrics suggest the Pagan worship of gods such as Dagda himself, who is the king of all Celtic gods. Overall, tracks such as "The Primal Gods," "The Gifted People," and "Lament for a Hero," invoke the mythology of Keating's ancient Irish ancestors.
