CAT PEOPLE is Paul Schrader's eroticized, graphically violent remake of the 1942 horror classic. Reunited with her long-lost brother in New Orleans, a sexually repressed young woman discovers that she and her sibling belong to a strange race, half-cat, half-human. During sex the creatures revert to their feline form, and only by killing can they reverse the process. Physically awakened for the first time, the woman finds herself prey to her own terrifying animal nature--and to her brother's incestuous desires.

Sound and vision are in perfect synergy as coltish Nastassja Kinski pads softly
and stealthily into her brothers (Malcolm McDowell) cat trap. After many years
apart, their re heralds a sinister and pathetic bond between them: due to an
ancient curse, he tells her, they turn into black leopards after making love -
the only way to stop it is for him to make love with her. Naturally, she
"fleas."
Blood and bones collide in the rain when siblings are trapped in a
deadly dance of cat and cat. When Kinski surrenders her virginity, becoming a
magnificent leopard, capable of crunching even the skull of her lover (John
Hird) a post-coital metamorphosis not for the faint-hearted ensues.
The
smitten kitten brother out of the way after a fatal fall, Kinski happily becomes
the newest inmate of the New Orleans Zoo - a triumph of the matt artists
imagination - her keeper (Hird, again) wearing a secret smile....
