Boot Camp Clik Artist Snapshot:

An eight-man collective composed of members of Black Moon, Smif-N-Wessun, Heltah Skeltah, and O.G.C., Brooklyn's Boot Camp Clik first came together for "Cession at Da Doghillee" on Smif-N-Wessun's 1995 debut. The same year, "Headz Ain't Reddee" appeared on the NEW JERSEY DRIVE soundtrack, the Heltah Skeltah/O.G.C. single "Leflaur Leflah Eshkoshkah" introduced the Fab 5 formation, and Buckshot and Nervous Records employee Dru Ha formed Duck Down Records--the Clik's home label ever since. While the BCC's first group LP, FOR THE PEOPLE (1997), paled in comparison with previous solo efforts, their three subsequent efforts--starting with 2002's THE CHOSEN FEW-- were critical successes thanks in part to top-notch production from longtime collaborators Da Beatminerz.

Title Note

Additional personnel: G-Tang.

A bastion of consistency in an ever-changing genre, the Boot Camp Clik collective has played a major role in shaping East Coast underground hip-hop. Since Black Moon's classic 1993 debut, ENTA DA STAGE, violent yet understated rhymes combined with Da Beatminerz's minimalist jazz- and funk-influenced production have made up the Clik's signature sound. Fourteen years later, Buckshot and the crew are reformed and rejuvenated on their fourth group release, CASUALTIES OF WAR.

While the 2007 full-length is allegedly composed of studio throwaways collected from various side projects Tek, Steele, Ruck, Rock, Smokey Lah, Starang Wondah, Louisville Sluggah, and the BDI MC have managed to put together one of the strongest group records to come out of the Rotten Apple in years. Tracks courtesy of Marco Polo, Nottz, Marvel, Dan the Man, Coptic, and 9th Wonder provide the perfect backdrops for the Clik's lyrical mayhem. Listeners who have been with hip-hop since the early '90s will appreciate the rawness here.
