A collaboration between Cocteau Twins guitarist/producer Robin Guthrie and ex-Mono vocalist Siobhan De Mare, Violet Indiana borrows from the shimmering, gauzy textures that mark Guthrie's work, and the noir-ish trip-hop of Mono. CASINO, a US-only release, collects songs from the Violet Indiana's UK EPs, offering a fine sampler of the group's lush, ambient, dream pop.

Fans of classic Cocteau Twins albums like VICTORIALAND will find much to love here, with De Mare's breezy, sultry vocals weaving through Guthrie's watery, attenuated guitars and billowing synth sheets. There is a bit more edge to Violet Indiana than Guthrie's previous projects, as the razory refrain of "Bang Bang" and the ominous, foreboding air of tunes like "Silent" show. Even so, CASINO pulls the listener into a cycle of cool, spectral atmospheres that work equally well as relaxation material and carefully crafted headphone music.
