Title Note

Casino Classics is a sort of microcosm of British indie pop through the '80s and '90s, with its various trips through shambling, C-86 sounds typically sounding a whole lot like the Pastels or the first few records by the Television Personalities, with various excursions into punk, organized pop, and slop-rock recalling the Vaselines, Felt, and the contemporary work of Yatsura, respectively. The album's great strength lies not only in this loose indie traditionalism, but in its engaging songwriting; Comet Gain may tend to sound a lot like the Pastels, but they can also put together a series of songs far more consistent than those on most Pastels releases. This combination of shambling sounds and charming songwriting makes for a rather lovable album. Strangely enough, Sneaky (Casino Classics' successor) somehow lacks this quality. ~ Nitsuh Abebe
