A semi-concept album based around the fictional, beach-front town of Carver City, CKY's first album since 2005's AN ANSWER CAN BE FOUND, is a straight-ahead speed-metal headbanger, with the occasional gothic flourish (a la the church organ effect throughout "Rats In The Infirmary"). While CARVER lacks the bulldozing quality of metal upstarts the Sword or Children, it's more gratifyingly steeped in the indulgent catchiness of apparent influences like Iron Maiden. On album highlights like "Imaginary Threats" and "A #1 Roller Rager," they approach the dynamic songwriting and complex interplay of genre standouts such as In Flames.
