Title Note

The Carolina Chocolate Drops have made a mission of bringing the old-time string-band sound of the 1920s and '30s into the 21st century, and on this album they take that mission one step further by collaborating with fiddler Joe Thompson, who is reckoned to be one of the last surviving string-band musicians who hails from the style's heyday. Their musical meeting at the 2008 MerleFest (named for Merle Watson, not Haggard) shows that these players from different generations have a lot in common when it comes to delivering traditional tunes that mix touches of folk and early country with an abundance of heart and infectious zeal.
