"The Birdseller" is Carl Zeller's most popular work and until today it is staged regularly all over the world. The confusion about harmless and funny complications between lovers at the court of a Rhineland-Palatinate elector was the big hit of an Austrian public servant whose second occupation as composer was only tolerated with disapproval. The uplifting nostalgic operetta, of which already the first night on January 10th, 1891 was a great success, unites many popular operetta tunes such as the famous "Roses from Tyrol" or "The Nightingale Song". The DVD in hand documents an open-air staging of the Sea Festival Mörbisch from 1998. Every year this operetta festival, the biggest in the world, is held against the impressive backdrop of the sea stage by the Neusiedler Sea and attracts up to 200,000 spectators. Besides the complete recording of the operetta, the DVD offers an informative expedition through the festival city Mörbisch which people also like to call the Austrian "Mecca of Operetta".
