The title track of singer/songwriter Jonatha Brooke's 2007 release CAREFUL WHAT YOU WISH FOR is a microcosm of all that makes her so compelling: starting out as a bluesy folk number, with simple guitar strums and an upfront, earnest vocal, the song changes gears a few minutes in and becomes a heavy-hitting, symphonic tangle of powerhouse guitars, sonic compression, and choral singing. That Brooke demonstrates such a command of the vagaries of pop music while also remaining a quirky original is no surprise to her dedicated fans.
