A classic live album, 1976's CAPTURED LIVE is worlds better than the majority of Johnny Winter concert documents available. Recorded at the height of Winter's commercial success in front of a wildly enthusiastic crowd, CAPTURED LIVE shows the Texas bluesman at his finest. Fronting a scorching quartet, Winter plays compact, expressive solos with just enough flash and a minimum of self-indulgence.

The six lengthy tracks feature as much solid ensemble playing as they do solo showboating, quite unusual for a '70s guitar boogie album. The set list is heavy on the covers, ranging from a killer rave-up on "Highway 61 Revisited," on which the band sounds like Dylan's Hawks, to a looser, good-humored take on Bobby Womack's oft-covered "It's All Over Now."
