He also minutely researches the recording details of such seminal albums as ASTRAL WEEKS, with in-depth analysis of its songs. Morrison's contradictory personality, and a succession of lackluster albums during the late '70s, did little to endear him to his record-buying public, although there was a later resurgence of interest dating from the release of his album WAVELENGTH and other increasingly spiritually- and philosophically-oriented recordings. Ultimately, Heylin finds Morrison to be an artistically gifted curmudgeon, capable of creating the otherworldly beauty of albums like VEEDON FLEECE, but unable to relate in any meaningful way to the rest of the world.
