Cali's Tha Dogg Pound are kind of like the television show GOOD TIMES, a spinoff of a spinoff that's created a legacy in its own right; as Dr. Dre unleashed Snoop Dogg on the world, thus did Snoop Dogg introduce the duo of Kurupt and Daz Dillinger. By the late 1990's, with hits like "Let's Play House," the duo had stamped its own voice on the hip-hop scene, together and as solo artists. After a relatively slight beef, the two came roaring back strong as ever on 2006's CALI IZ ACTIVE.

Long departed for lucrative solo careers, Snoop Dogg's prot‚g‚ duo of Daz Dillinger and Kurupt, better known as Tha Dogg Pound, reunite for CALI IZ ACTIVE, the duo's first official album since their sophomore effort, 2002. Crossing up their long-held West Coast style with technically superior production by Swizz Beats, Southern crunk courtesy of David Banner and Jazze Pha, and many more high-profile guest shots, CALI IZ ACTIVE serves as a wake-up call for California, in particular Long Beach County, to resume the throne as holders of the country's most dominant rap sound--G Funk. The funk reigns supreme on tracks like "Hard on a Hoe," but finds new life in sped-up, crunked out tracks like "It's Craccin' All Night" and "Sittin' on 23'z."
