Product Notes

The school that 15-year-old Silvio (Silvio Muccino, who also penned the script) attends has been taken over by the students, who demand an end to the privatization of the facility; Silvio himself is mostly concerned in putting an end to his virginity, however. He uses the rebellion as a way to steal a few moments alone with Valentina, the prettiest girl in school, and the two share a kiss. When Silvio tells of his coup to his big-mouthed best friend, word gets around to Valentina's very jealous boyfriend Martino, and Silvio finds himself in some deep trouble at school. At home Silvio must contend with his ex-revolutionary parents (Anna Galiena and Luca De Flippo), who have settled comfortably into a bourgeois existence and are painfully dismissive of the next generation's attempts at political activism. Ultimately Silvio finds an unexpected object for his affections when he discovers that he, too, has been loved from afar. This charming, lighthearted coming-of-age comedy has some decidedly prescient things to say about the role of politics for a young generation, while presenting a poignantly apt depiction of teen romance. The film collected numerous awards on the festival circuit, and was an international success with audiences and critics alike.
