The rough-hewn and spirited covers on this album from former Smithereens singer Pat DiNizio will not make anyone forget Buddy Holly's originals--or even Linda Ronstadt's popular versions from the 1970s--but they hold together as another excellent single-artist tribute from the singer who struck a similarly reverent note with his Beatles covers album in '06. DiNizio also tips his hat to the street-corner doo-wop artists of his youth with a muscular a capella "That'll Be the Day."
