CMJ (1/5/04, p.20) - Ranked #6 in CMJ's "Top 20 Most-Played Albums of 1987"

Title Note

BUCKY FELLINI, the follow-up to 1985's BIG LIZARD IN MY BACKYARD, is a riotous romp through the juvenile minds of the Dead Milkmen. It's a light-hearted collection of 15 tracks spoofing everything from environmental activism ("Watching Scotty Die"), to '80s new wave dance bands ("You'll Dance to Anything"). It includes highlights such as two covers of songs by Daniel Johnston ("Big Time Operator" and "Rocketship"), and an irreverent tribute to Elvis Presley ("Going to Graceland").

In true Milkmen fashion, schoolboy humor abounds in such tunes as "The Badger Song," where the Milkmen praise the virtues of unseemly relations with woodland creatures, or in "(Theme From) Blood Orgy of the Atomic Fern," to which one is advised to bring a case of RC Cola and some extra towels "just in case someone happens to get disemboweled." Combining indie and garage rock stylings with absurd subject matter, the Dead Milkmen prove that not everyone took themselves seriously in the 1980's.
