Strawbs: Chas Cronk (vocals, guitar, keyboard, bass instrument); David Cousins (vocals, guitar, keyboard); Dave Lambert (vocals, guitar); Rod Coombes (drum).

Additional personnel: Ian Cutler (fiddle); John Hawken (keyboard).

The Strawbs have consistently moved back and forth between a revved-up take on U.K. folk akin to Fairport Convention and more typical British progressive rock throughout their career. Overall, THE BROKEN HEARTED BRIDE leans closer to the former than the latter. Recorded with a four-man lineup led by Dave Cousins and Dave Lambert on vocals and guitars, the 11 lengthy tracks feature some pointedly political lyrics, particularly on "The Call To Action" and the media-bashing "Shadowland."
