Publisher's note

The epic romance of one of the most celebrated poets in the English language
Coming to theatres in September 2009 is the tragic love story of nineteenth-century poet John Keats and the love of his life, Fanny Brawne. Keats died at the young age of twenty-five, leaving behind some of the most exquisite and moving verse and letters ever written, inspired by his deep love for Fanny. "Bright Star" is a collection of Keatas romantic poems and correspondence in the heat of his passion, and is a dazzling display of a talent cut cruelly short.

Annotation

John Keats's burning love for his one-time next-door neighbor Fanny Brawne literally defined romantic, as it inspired him to write some of the poems which are today considered classics of 19th century Romanticism. The details of their affair were not acknowledged until after they were both dead, as Keats was virtually unknown when he died and Fanny went on to marry another man. But after Fanny's husband died, her children revealed dozens of Keats's letters which she had secretly kept throughout her life. The letters, collected in this volume, along with some of Keats's inflammatory romantic poetry, are considered to be among the most stirring correspondences of all time, dramatically capturing the essence of love in passionate language. They continue to inspire lovers some 200 years later, including renowned film director Jane Campion, whose introduction to the book details how she used the letters as the basis for her 2009 film BRIGHT STAR.
