The ultra-slick and sexy "new country" girl group SheDaisy lends their energized style to some holiday classics and a few sparkling original cuts on BRAND NEW YEAR. To be sure, this is a very non-traditional approach to Christmas songs, but then, the whole idea of Nashville at the turn of the 20th Century was to shake up the music world's concept of country. SheDaisy is one modern country act with the talent to pull off such a stylized holiday album; it's quite a change from the normal seasonal fare.
The traditional carols like "Deck The Halls," "Jingle Bells," and "Sleigh Ride" undergo major updating by the adventurous trio and popular country producer Dan Huff. From hip-hop grooves to slick studio effects, singing along to these holiday favorites may take some practice. The most notable original cuts include the tender ballad "That's What I Want For Christmas" and the rocking title track. Indeed, there is plenty here to provide a soundtrack to that exciting holiday party that you've been planning, with some left over for a little celebrating all year long.
