Bonnie Raitt's version of "You Got It" was nominated for a 1996 Grammy Award for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance.

The soundtrack of BOYS ON THE SIDE includes songs recorded by top female pop, rock and alternative artists. The movie revolves around the exploits of three women, expressing their individuality; thus, it is only fitting that the album is a "women only" affair as well. And as the movie covers various women's issues, so does the soundtrack. There is no unifying political or social agenda to this collection, but it is a collective expression of women's voices, eliciting emotion and honesty.

Most of the songs are covers (many written by men), but are given a fresh feminist perspective when remade by artists of this caliber. The inimitable Bonnie Raitt provides a soulful cover of Roy Orbison's "You Got It"; the Pretenders' quavering Chrissie Hynde offers Morrissey's "Everyday Is Like Sunday"; and Stevie Nicks makes a comeback with a Sheryl Crow song. Speaking of the Grammy-winning Crow, she blasts through a spirited version of Derek & The Dominos' "Keep On Growing." Standing on their own material are powerhouse diva Annie Lennox (who contributes a confessional epic, "Why") and the Cranberries' Dolores O'Riordan.

BOYS ON THE SIDE is a good indication of the healthy state of women in rock 'n' roll, especially when you consider that the artists on this album garnered fifteen 1995 Grammy nominations among them.
