Title Note

Over the years, British iconoclasts Chumbawamba tranversed a startlingly wide array of styles, starting out in the 1980s as a Crass-like collective of anarchic punk rockers. By the '90s, they were incorporating pop and electronics into their sound (resulting in their 1997 hit "Tubthumping"). The 21st-century version of the band, as represented on THE BOY BANDS HAVE WON (2008), is worlds away from either of those incarnations. The Chumbas have become a straight-up folk band. While their lyrics are still full of cleverness and social comment, they're framed by acoustic guitar strumming and vocal harmonies that would not sound out of place on a Steeleye Span album.
