What made En-Tact great--the ethereal undercurrents behind a hypnotizing groove and poetic raps--was removed from Boss Drum. What is left is good dance music that is a few remixes short of being incredible dance music. The singles "LSI (Love, Sex, Intelligence)," "Ebeneezer Goode," and "Phorever People" all rely more heavily on their rap components and revved-up beats than any other song on Boss Drum, but the album just doesn't have the transcending magical groove of En-Tact to support the harder edge of these songs.
