Review

Q (10/94, p.106) - 3 Stars - Good - "...Listening to the chugging Black Sabbath riffs of Born Dead, it's clear that Body Count function primarily as a kind of punchbag for Ice..."
NME (9/3/94, p.52) - 7 - Very Good - "...this is an album aimed squarely at the suburban Beavis & Butt-Heads, middle America's white youth...Making a killer rock album is Ice-T's best revenge on white corporate Amerika..."
Entertainment Weekly (9/23/94, p.71) - "...mix slasher-film imagery with social criticism in a way that's smarter--and hookier--than anything by your average Satan worshipers..." - Rating: B

Album Description

All of the controversy over "Cop Killer" and Body Count's debut obscured one important fact -- they're not a very good band. Born Dead makes that clear by replicating all of Body Count -- all of the plodding riffs, embarrassing singing, obvious attempts at social commentary, and the relentless "Body Count, Body Count, Body Count, BC, BC, BC" chants. All that's missing is humor. Not even the worst material on Born Dead is unintentionally funny; it's just embarrassing. Ice-T can pull this material off live; on record, his band just sounds like a heavy metal relic from the late '80s. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine
