Review

The Wire (pp.41-43) - "The self-titled 'Blues Control' is a square jawed bruiser of a track. The sound is distorted almost beyond recognition into a wrecking ball riff of brutal simplicity."

New York city-based fuzz experimentalists Blues Control might have a dose of the ailment that inspired their name, but they sure don't play any previously known version of that well-known musical style. While there are fleeting moments of pop cohesion, the tracks on this self-titled full-length, released on Holy Mountain in 2007, are mostly sprawling, spacey noisescapes, built on pulsing electronics and distorted keyboards that underscore guitar lines stretching to reach the great beyond. This is challenging, amorphous music packed with beauty and aggression, white noise, and yes, the blues.
