Musician (3/93, p.95) - "...tasty examples of Nelsonian pop. Both the trademark E-Bowed guitar lines and the magnificent cover art leave no doubt: Nelson still has the touch..."
Bill Nelson sings and plays guitars and keyboards.
Recorded at Studio Rose-Croix, Yorkshire, England.
Every new Nelson release is cause to rejoice. His music is never less than captivating. At its best, it can be incredibly striking, highly well produced, and utterly compelling. Dare it be said that BLUE MOONS AND LAUGHING GUITARS is Nelson's return to serious rock? As if to settle those doubters among you, the album is a churning, guitar-charged, and feisty return, literally bursting with the sort of tunes that made THE LOVE THAT WHIRLS AND QUIT DREAMING AND GET ON THE BEAM such classic albums.
Nelson has incorporated diverse fragments of his entire resume into GUITARS. Unique cinematic vocal samples, found sounds, devolved electronics, chunky rhythms, and tons and tons of guitar are all set like amber into these songs. The album recalls Nelson's glory days with Be-Bop Deluxe but actually comes closer in feel to a stripped-down Red Noise. Amazingly, Nelson played, produced, and composed this surprising record on his own. The Nelson modus operandi predominates, but here he pushes the envelope and rocks the clocks.
