No Depression (p.122) - "Cadillac Sky plays high-octane newgrass without sounding like a total New Grass Revival ripoff. That's no mean feat. Much of their drive comes from banjo player Matt Menefee..."
Cadillac Sky: Mike Jump (guitar); Matt Mendes (banjo); Bryan Simpson, Ross Holmes (fiddle); Andy Moritz (bass instrument).
Additional personnel: C-Sky Sista' And Soul Brotha' Choir, C-Sky Sideful Stomp And Holy Hands Quartet, Sonya Isaacs (vocals); Clint 'The Sturge' Sturgeon, Dennis Wilson (baritone); Kenneth Soper (didjeridu); Byron House (upright bass).
The debut album by progressive bluegrass trio Cadillac Sky blends the genre's acoustic roots with some interesting new textures. World music touches like didgeridoos and Celtic hand drums expand the songs' instrumental palette, as do the tunes' occasional rock and modern country structures. Mandolin player and lead singer Bryan Simpson is a Nashville session veteran, and BLIND MAN WALKING has the giddy, exploratory quality of a sideman who finally gets the chance to work on his own material.
