Title Note

This is the complete, original soundtrack to BLADE RUNNER, not released until 1994 because of contractual difficulties. This release also includes some soundscapes which were not in the movie.

Personnel: Vangelis (programming); Mary Hopkin, Don Percival, Demis Roussos (vocals); Dick Morrisey (saxophone).

Engineers include: Frederick Rousseau, Philippe Colonna, Raphael Preston.

Recorded at Nemo Studios, London, England. Includes liner notes by Vangelis.

It was a circuitous route that led Greek keyboardist/composer Vangelis to BLADE RUNNER. He first came to worldwide attention as part of the '70s progressive rock trio Aphrodite's Child, later going solo as a synthesizer wizard, and occasionally collaborating with buddy Jon Anderson of Yes. With a passion for lush orchestrations, Vangelis fell naturally into soundtrack work, making a splash with his score for CHARIOTS OF FIRE. The music he created for Blade Runner was a logical extension of his previous work, the film's futuristic setting fueling his forward-looking vision as he built an affecting musical world from his vast bank of keyboards. Both emotional and unsettling, the Blade Runner score plays off conflict (discord versus harmony, light against dark) for a rich, textured tapestry of sound.
