With a front cover designed by Trevor Winkfield, who has collaborated with poets James Schuyler, John Ashbery and Ron Padgett, this book of essays, occasional poems and photographs rambles through literary lives (Robert Duncan, Basil Bunting, James Broughton, Henry Miller, Kenneth Patchen, Raymond Moore, Art Sinsabaugh, Clarence John Laughlin); artists (James McGarrell, Bill Anthony, Anne Albers), obituaries (Joel Oppenheimer, Paul Potts, Ernest Matthew Mickler). There is a long piece, "The Moon Pool," on undervalued and overlooked books and writers; and several musings on the pleasures of exploring both great and minor cemeteries in the United States and Europe. Annotation

Williams, 71 years old when this volume was compiled, studied photography at the famous Black Mountain College in the 1950s. This volume collects his prose from that era and later, and includes observations on literary personalities Basil Bunting, James Dickey, Robert Duncan, and Joel Oppenheimer.
