Chicagoan Nicole Mitchell is the founder of the critically acclaimed Black Earth Ensemble and has also performed with free jazz heavywheights the likes of Hamid Drake, Anthony Braxton, and Rob Mazurek. Her eclectic Black Earth Ensemble features influences and inspiration that run the gamut of jazz history (from New Orleans to the avant-garde) and beyond (funk, Afro-Cuban and Caribbean music, poetry, and dance choreography). BLACK UNSTOPPABLE finds's Mitchell fronting her large band, and embracing the past, while looking to an open and limitless musical horizon.
