Review

Kerrang (Magazine) (p.49) - "[A] powerful blend of metal, rock, screamo and melody..."

Title Note

Story Of The Year: Philip Sneed (vocals, guitar); Dan Marsala (vocals); Ryan Phillips (guitar); The Skull (electric bass); Josh Wills (drums).

Recalling both the fierce speed metal of Metallica and the arty modern rock of Hum, the sonic landscape of screamo stalwarts Story of the Year is one of blistering guitars cut to shreds by moments of longingly mournful melody. The five-piece band's third album, and first in the three years following 2005's breakthrough, IN THE WAKE OF DETERMINATION, shifts niftily from the driving to the chaotic to the reflective. While the record opens with the thrashing anthem "Choose Your Fate," by the fourth track, "Tell Me," the mood is Deftones-reflective. By "Cannonball," the outfit is even paying subtle tribute to glam-metal bands like Motley Crue.
