In the post-Lily Allen and Clap Your Hands And Say Yeah! world where a Myspace page and the smallest blog can launch an act to international success, Alamo Race Track may have one-upped them all by attaining international fame with a three-minute living room performance of their song "Black Cat John Brown" on Youtube. As this sterling sophomore release proves, though, the Dutch quartet has the goods to back up the initial buzz, with songs that play like the Brian Jonestown Massacre tackling THE BASEMENT TAPES, offering simple blues structures and hooks that find new angles with lo-fi production and an off-kilter delivery. Some of it borders on the precious, but Alamo Race Track never forget that they're a rock band, making BLACK CAT JOHN BROWN nearly a sure bet.
