Title Note

Jim Ford is one of the unsung heroes of 1970s country soul. Part of the reason for this--in addition to Ford's musical and notorious personal eccentricity--may be the skimpiness of his discography. Ford released only one album, the cult classic HARLAN COUNTY, during his lifetime, but many more previously unreleased sessions have appeared in posthumous packages. BIG MOUTH USA was to have been a 1973 release for Ford, but it didn't see the light of day for 36 years. It contains a musical blend similar to that of HARLAN COUNTY, mixing honky-tonk, funk, and soul in roughly equal amounts, with Ford's light, loopy touch lending a left-field charm throughout the proceedings.
