Rolling Stone (6/26/97, p.56) - "...the most provocative and devout record that Statman has ever made--a collection of daredevil improvisations on traditional Chasidic themes charged with both gale-force invocations of Coltrane's A LOVE SUPREME and the faint, delicate breath of the ancient and pious rebbes..."
Personnel includes: Andy Statman, David Grisman (vocals); Bela Fleck (banjo); Kenny Werner (piano); Scott Lee, Harvey Schwartz (bass); Bob Weiner (drums).
Andy Statman's klezmer band has an impressive lineup of high-caliber jazz performers that bring serious musicianship to this album. Some of these pieces feel loose and meandering, as in the marvelously freeform "You Were Revealed." At other moments, Statman seems lost in the memory of a more traditional sound--"Maggid" and "Adir" are quiet contemplations of clarinet and piano. However, as soon as Statman begins to sound like he is delving deep into a traditional representation of klezmer clarinet, he joyously leaps off into the unknown.
