Review

Q (8/99, p.134) - 4 stars (out of 5) - "...this is the collection which demands your wallet's attention....the best of the first two albums is included, alongside eight tunes from the band's strongest album HEARTS OF STONE, all perfect, ready and waiting..."
Stereo Review (12/92, p.112) - "...the best of the band's late-Seventies Epic albums, fleshed out with great live tracks..."

Title Note

Personnel includes: Southside Johnny Lyon, Ronnie Spector, Miami Steven Van Zandt.

Although Bruce Springsteen may be the best known and most successful New Jersey working class rocker, Southside Johnny has been responsible for some fine moments as well (although admittedly, Springsteen and his guitarist Little Steven wrote many a song for Johnny). Southside Johnny and his backing band, the Asbury Jukes, are more R&B influenced than the Boss, but still know how to get a party going with sing-along rockers and tender ballads.

The 19-track 1992 compilation, BEST OF SOUTHSIDE JOHNNY, is fine place to start for the newcomer, as it focuses mainly on the Jukes' stronger '70s albums. Standouts include the soulful rockers "The Fever," "Love on the Wrong Side of Town," and "Without Love."
