Album Description

Released less than two years after Luna disbanded, this 2006 career-spanning retrospective draws from all of the long-running indie-rock group's albums, and also includes a few EP tracks. The well-selected 17-track disc is arranged in non-chronological order, calling attention to the consistent threads of the ensemble's dreamy sound, as revealed on the set's shimmering opener, "Moon Palace" (featuring Television guitarist Tom Verlaine), and its strummy, Velvet Underground-like closer, "23 Minutes in Brussels," both lifted from 1995's lauded PENTHOUSE. Throughout THE BEST OF LUNA, the amiable singing of frontman Dean Wareham (formerly of cult band Galaxie 500) drifts over the tunes, which touch down on both minimalist rock and breezy pop, resulting in a distinct and accessible aesthetic that endeared Luna to a legion of devoted fans.
