This is an Enhanced CD, which contains both regular audio tracks and multimedia computer files.
Personnel include: Guy Penrod (vocals).
In a world of Contemporary Christian Music acts playing lighter-than-air pop music with only the mildest spiritual content, Guy Penrod is an old-school throwback. Penrod's looks suggest a cross between Kenny Rogers and Ray Stevens, and he sings country/western-based gospel music with a capital G. The Texas-born Penrod has been associated with Bill Gaither (Billy Graham's musical director and one of the leading lights of the contemporary southern gospel scene) for most of his career, and THE BEST OF GUY PENROD covers the first ten years of the Penrod-Gaither collaboration. Included are such fan favorites as "Good Good News" and "Knowing You'll Be There," along with respectful versions of a number of gospel standards, like the lengthy call-and-response of "At the Cross," the southern gospel tune popularized for country audiences by Johnny Cash. Some versions of THE BEST OF GUY PENROD are packaged with a DVD of performances and interview clips.
