Whereas Bob Marleys music was a comparably feel-good peace and love kinda thing, this is really droll, eloquently pissed-off stuff describing what life was like for everyman in Kingston at the time, omg. From the dread era of politricks in Jamaica. The feeling of dread (fear) hangs in the air like the stifling, humid hot weather – ironically(?), the Golden Age of Reggae. Itv was recorded 1973 to 1976 and applyies to the immediately following years. From one of the suffera’s. This speaks to the music that reggae came out of, very primal. This is what I would reggae rock-out style. Im not talking about velocity, volume and heavy metal. The riddims rock out (heavy metal slowed down to heartbeat speed) the lyrics and music you rock you. It puts you inna righteously angry kinda mood to take action (careful, its heady stuff) or just to take it on down to the dance floor. What riddims! Melodies, lyrics, riddim and mood will stay with ya! The songs are almost all anthems. I had the vinyl and havent heard the bonus tracks (5-9), but it only gets better from here. If you dont like it all, right away - it will grow on you! Note: "corn" in Jamaican patois referred to "bullets". So when the Dr. sings "Me throw mi corn a corn a corn a call A call de best dressed chicken in-na town" - well, I dunno - you figure it out!
