Reggae singer Delroy Wilson had a long and prolific career (cut short by his premature death in 1995), but his Studio One work from the 1960s is the foundation on which his legend is built. Though Wilson was only a teen at the time, he was backed by some of the hottest studio musicians in Jamaica, and his deeply soulful blend of rocksteady, ska, and roots styles helped him become one of the best and most beloved singers of the era.
THE BEST OF DELROY WILSON, a collection of his Studio One recordings, was first released in 1991 under the title ORIGINAL TWELVE; this reissue comprises the original album and six bonus tracks, all with improved sound. In addition to Wilson's excellent songs (he wrote all but four of the 18 tracks here) and effortless performances, the set rings with that magical, earthy Studio One sound. In short, THE BEST OF DELROY WILSON belongs in any serious reggae fan's collection.
