Delaney & Bonnie Artist Snapshot:

Delaney Bramlett was a successful studio musician and Bonnie Lynn O'Farrell was the only white member of Ike Turner's Ikettes when they met in Los Angeles in 1967. The couple married that week, and formed a soulful, rootsy band that hosted a rotating line-up of stellar guest musicians that included Jim Keltner, Bobby Keyes, Leon Russell, and Gram Parsons, among others. The group made six albums, had two charting singles, co-wrote songs for others, and toured extensively with numerous artists of the late '60s (including good friend Eric Clapton), but their musical tenure and marriage ended in 1972. Neither artist's solo career was as influential as their combined efforts, although Bonnie enjoyed some success as an actress and Delaney continued on as a top-notch session man.

Entertainment Weekly (1/18/91) - "..the talented and influential duo mixed gospel, rhythm and blues, rock, and country for a potent down-home alternative to pop-star elitism...timeless songs and memorable performances ...recalls the Bramlett's career together in an album jam-packed with heart, soul, and amazing guitar licks.." - Rating: A-

Husband-and-wife duo Delaney and Bonnie Bramlett were among the foremost proponents of blue-eyed soul in the 1960s and '70s. They're famous for luring Eric Clapton into their midst and influencing the direction of his solo work, but their own legacy stands up well beyond that. BEST OF DELANEY & BONNIE culls the best tracks from the pair's key releases, including their effervescent signature song, "Get Ourselves Together"; the New Orleans parade-band number "Free the People"; and the propulsive, Stax-indebted "Soul Shake." Delaney & Bonnie operated in a time when the boundaries of music were bursting open, and their sound is an organic mix of rock, blues, soul, gospel, and country that ultimately becomes its own unique paradigm. The Bramletts were at once musical relatives of the contemporaneous Southern rock of the Allman Brothers and their crowd, and a band apart.
