The best of Clarence Carter? Well, there's a very nice (re-recorded) version of "Patches" here, plus a similar version of "Slip Away," his other biggest hit. The rest of the album, however, is more like the best of the Commodores, Joe Jones, the Ojays, the Main Ingredient, Dusty Springfield, Dobie Gray, Bill Withers, and Keith Carradine, all of whose songs Carter covers with mostly excellent results.

The production varies from track to track (some of the tracks are probably demos) but Carter sings everything like he means it. A bluesy rendition of "You Don't Have to Say You Love Me" is particularly affecting.
