Mesh Match For "The Best Of Blind Melon: Tones Of Home" CD by Blind Melon:

Blind Melon Artist Snapshot:

Benefiting from the early-1990s grunge Zeitgeist without directly participating in it, Blind Melon explored the edges of classic guitar rock, with added touches of homespun folk and white funk. Their biggest hit was the gentle rocker "No Rain," whose sunny melody and uplifting video (featuring the "Bee Girl") belied its downcast lyrics. The song boosted the album to lofty chart heights, and the band enjoyed rock-star status for a brief time, until lead singer Shannon Hoon's drug-related death in 1995. Blind Melon reunited in 2006 with new singer Travis Warren.

Title Note

Blind Melon: Shannon Hoon (vocals, acoustic guitar); Christopher Thorn, Rogers Stevens (guitar); Brad Smith (bass guitar, background vocals); Glen Graham (drums).

Recording information: 1992 - 1996.

A selection of tracks mostly culled from Blind Melon's first two albums, with the addition of a couple of inclusions from NICO, the collection released after singer Shannon Hoon's 1995 death from an overdose, as well as previously unreleased live material. Though the still-fresh and gloriously strange-sounding "No Rain" is the most instantly recognizable song here, the compilation also spotlights the band's more progressive tendencies in cuts like the Led Zep-flavored "2X4," while "Soup"'s flavorful combination of gentle acoustic textures and hard-edged rocking hints at a sadly unrealized promise of greatness.
