Mesh Match For "The Best of Beck [Epic]" CD by Jeff Beck:

Jeff Beck Artist Snapshot:

Along with Jimmy Page and Eric Clapton, guitar legend Jeff Beck first made his mark with English blues-rockers The Yardbirds in the 1960s. And like the others, he gained greater popularity after he left the band. One of rock's great instrumentalists, Beck is also credited with giving Rod Stewart his musical start when Stewart fronted the Jeff Beck Group in the late '60s. Never one to sit still, Beck helped define hard rock in the late '60s before taking on jazz-rock fusion from a rock perspective in the '70s.

Title Note

Personnel includes: Jeff Beck (guitar); Rod Stewart (vocals); Tony Hymas (keyboards); Terry Bozzio (drums).

Includes liner notes by Vernon Reid.

Although Beck has released numerous solo albums, made guest appearances on other artists' albums, and was a member of the ultra-influential '60s outfit the Yardbirds, the single-disc career overview BEST OF BECK only saw release in 1995. The collection represents just about every era of Beck's recorded work. "Shapes of Things" and "Jailhouse Rock" date from his proto-heavy metal Jeff Beck Group days with Rod Stewart and Ron Wood. BEST OF samples Beck's mid-'70s fusion work ("Freeway Jam," "Goodbye Pork Pie Hat," "Blue Wind") and his varied work from the '80s, including a hit collaboration with Stewart on "People Get Ready." While the three-disc BECKOLOGY is more thorough, BEST OF BECK serves as an excellent intro to this chameleon-like, six-string master.
