The Bar-Kays Artist Snapshot:

The Bar-Kays began as a gritty instrumental soul band in the manner of their mentors, Booker T & the MGs. They were employed as Otis Redding's backing band on tour, until a tragic 1967 plane crash took the lives of Redding and four band members. With a revamped line-up, the group reinvented itself as a '70s disco-funk hit machine, continuing in various permutations until 1993.

The Bar-Kays' music derives its groovability from a hard driving backbeat, tight horn riffs, and the band's overall hypnotic feel. Every song on THE BEST OF BAR-KAYS is as infectious as it is catchy. This is get-down-on-the-dance-floor music from the very first note to the last.

Songs such as "Shake Your Rump to the Funk," "I'll Dance," "Move Your Boogie Body" and "Freakshow on the Dance Floor" are pretty self-explanatory; these are party tunes from the bygone 1970s, but they resonate even now because of the band's contagious grooves and skillful musicianship. The perfect CD for anybody interested in authentic funk/soul music, THE BEST OF BAR-KAYS is veritable boogie feast.

I have always been a lover of the Barkays in particular Charle Scoop Allen of which I have heard nothing of since leaveing the Barkays for commercial endeavers. Where can he be found I am still his biggest fan and would like to see him.
