An obvious nod to its 2000 breakthrough album, AFTER THE EULOGY, 2005's BEFORE THE EULOGY collects early Boy Sets Fire rarities and EPs, including the group's late-1990s work. In addition to politically outspoken originals such as "Consider the Numbers," the Delaware-based emo-core band also offers up an energetic cover of the Dead Kennedys' "Holiday in Cambodia." While the fierce, scathing "screamo" sound is apparent on some tracks ("Voice Over," "No Safe Time"), BEFORE THE EULOGY reveals the more melodic side of the ensemble as well, particularly on the rumbling "Suckerpunch Training" and the unplugged tune "Fashion as a Weapon."
