Review

Spin (p.114) - 4 stars out of 5 -- "Freaking futuristic electro jazz, retro-soul bittersweetness, next-level hip-hop schematics, and punk-funk sleaze on a suavely savage double-disc debut, this Los Angeles duo specializes in baby-making music for 22nd-century robots."
URB (Magazine) (p.86) - "The band shows a slightly tilted take on neo-soul, as flirtations with downtempo, glitch and even D&B swirl throughout."

Title Note

Although they've been known to refer to themselves as "the black Eurythmics," the music of duo J*Davey is difficult to categorize. The new wave influence is clear, but trackmaker Brook D'Leau and singer Jack Davey also draw heavily on urban contemporary, hip-hop, indie rock, funk, and psychedelia. The musical mix is idiosyncratic and refreshing, as are D'Leau's alternately layered and driving productions and Davey's unique, nasal vocals. The double-CD set THE BEAUTY IN DISTORTION/THE LAND OF THE LOST includes quirky dance-pop ("Mr. Mister"), smooth electro-funk ("Private Parts"), heady experimentation ("Rock the Dancehall"), robotic minimal hip-hop ("Lil Big Heads"), and a succession of other genre-smashing treats.
